Lunar New Year’s Retreat @ Norbertine Abbey

Lunar New Year’s Retreat @ Norbertine Abbey

“For those of you who may be be interested in an introspective and novel beginning for the New Year, there is a Lunar New Year’s Retreat taking place 20-22 January ’23.

Open to all: interfaith, non-faith, atheists, agnostics, spiritualists, secular humanists and any curious “seekers.”

As we begin a new year, let us pause to deepen into the quiet of the desert and the stirrings of wisdom within our own hearts. In this weekend gathering at the Lunar New Year, we listen closely to Spirit’s nudges in our personal and collective lives. We consider the ecological, personal, and collective lessons of 2022 with the support of a circular calendar, an ancient temporal technology beautifully suited to help us find how Spirit is moving us in these times. We pay particular attention to the shifts and changes of this changing climate, listening to the experience of fires in New Mexico, and how people might live mindfully and spiritually in a broken planet in an age of so many forms of trauma. This gathering invites fellow seekers both near and far to attend. We seek to highlight the multiplicity of spiritual experiences and wisdom in New Mexico for natives, locals, and visitors alike. Through conversation and guided reflective practices, storytelling and individual contemplative time, small group reflection and prayer, song and silence, we will tune more deeply to the ways that Spirit is moving us, preparing ourselves for the many known and unknown possibilities of a continually changing world.

Song Circle
Feb 7 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Music that Makes Community & Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey invites you to a song circle! What is a song circle? We are a group of friends and strangers interested in teaching, learning, and sharing songs together in an “oral tradition” style of music-making. We sing songs from a variety of traditions as well as songs of our own creation. We lean heavily on musical forms that lend themselves to learning by ear and singing from the heart, including: simple melodies, rounds, simple songs with layered harmonies, echo songs, and “call and response” songs. We take risks. We experiment. We make mistakes.
We laugh. We learn. We encourage one another. We sing.
We welcome you to join us!
