After two successful lectures in the series "God in Recovery: Spirituality, Storytelling, and the Practice of Healing," Megan McKenna kicks off the 2025 portion.
We all have moments and experiences of trauma whether they are individual occurrences or shared communally. They alter our realities on many levels, physically and spiritually and all have far ranging consequences. We will listen and share stories of scriptures and from other cultures around the world who with us are part of the struggles of our earth. There are imaginative and creative, even life-giving ways to respond, to repair, and even redeem these traumas and their effects on our bodies and souls, singularly and in communities. We will look at how to transform violence, pain and despair with grace so that we can live more wholly human, as holy people healing one another. Hope and resistance together are the first steps in facing ‘post’ trauma. Come, take a few first steps towards peace and recovery.
Megan McKenna is a storyteller, theologian, and writer of more than books, all with stories and connections to Scriptures. For the last five plus years especially, she has visited and worked with Indigenous peoples, in Northwestern Canada, Alaska, the Dakotas, and other Indigenous peoples of the world. She has also learned from groups in the US, England, Ireland, New Zealand, and elsewhere from people struggling with post traumatic distress syndrome, prisoners, refugees, immigrants, and many dealing with violence and trauma, both personally and in communities. She learned about forgiveness, reconciliation, restorative justice, and repairing souls and relationships (the Jewish concept and practices of Tikkum Olam) and resurrection. No registration necessary for this no-cost event; free-will offerings greatly appreciated.
