The Norbertine Library Lecture series presents Rev. Matthew Dougherty, O. Praem. Ph.D. is an assistant Professor of Biology at St. Norbert College in Wisconsin. This is a no-charge event and free-will donations will be accepted.
His presentation will consider What is the purpose of Catholic education, and what makes it “Catholic?” Is it the imparting of morals? Catechesis? Critical thinking? Skills for the workforce? In an age where the practical is prioritized, Catholic institutions have the opportunity to distinguish themselves by fostering a contemplative habit in their students to help them love God, neighbor, and self, and thus live meaningful and purpose filled lives.
Fr. Dougherty is a Norbertine priest from St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere Wisconsin. After attending St. Norbert College and Catholic Theological Union, Fr. Matthew graduated with a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University in 2023, and is now an assistant professor of biology at St. Norbert College. Fr. Matthew has great interest in Catholic education. He sat on the Board of Trustees of St. Norbert College from 2019-2022 and currently sits on the Corporate Board of Notre Dame Academy High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Fr. Matthew enjoys fishing and reading in his free time.
