The Norbertine Spirituality Center at Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey extends hospitality to those desiring a peaceful retreat environment in the beautiful high desert of New Mexico. Our comfortable overnight and meeting spaces are available for individuals and groups to be on retreat at the abbey.
We invite you to enjoy our walking paths, desert chapel, Norbertine Library, and participate in Morning and Evening Prayer, and daily Eucharist with the Norbertine Community.
Our 70-acre property, at 5300 feet elevation on Albuquerque’s southwest mesa is long considered holy ground with wonderful views of the Rio Grande Valley and Sandia Mountain. The abbey is a place where people of diverse faith traditions have come for decades to pray and experience the pristine beauty and solitude of the southwestern desert.
We offer four hermitages for those desiring a private, self-directed retreat from 2- 30 nights. These spaces provide the opportunity to enter more deeply into quiet reflection, prayer, and renewal.
Hermitages Include:
Comfortable walking shoes
Hat
Sunscreen
Water bottle
Toiletries
Food that can be prepared in your hermitage kitchen
Journal/notebook
“I have been coming here since I was 4 and I have changed a lot but my love for the Norbertines has not changed at all. I love how the rooms are so clean and peaceful I like to pray in the chapel and take walks in the beautiful landscape. I recommend for you to take the time for a retreat at the Norbertine Community.” – Stella, 10 years
