The Order of Prémontré once flourished on the Iberian Peninsula; today, however, there remain only two communities of Norbertines in Spain. Brother Terry Lauerman, O. Praem. will examine the history of the Order of Prémontré in Spain, examining the complex politics, cultural changes and reforms that have impacted the Order in that region, as well as how the unique properties of former Norbertine foundations continue to find new and creative uses in the present day.

Brother Terry Lauerman, O. Praem. is a member of the St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere, Wisconsin. He earned a doctorate degree in Spanish Education, in addition to master’s degrees in Spanish Education and Latin American studies. He has visited and studied Norbertine abbeys in Central and South America along with the Iberian Peninsula. Brother Terry is also known as the “Cat Grandpa” for his work with shelter cats, as reported on the BBC, USA Today, and other national news outlets.
