Day 12: Our first full day in the Netherlands, we began our journey to the east into Germany to visit some prominent historical sites known to the Norbertines. We made a small stop in Gennep to see the original Berne Abbey prior to the Reformation. Next went to Kevelaer to visit a known Marian shrine because as Norbertines, we hold a devotion to Mary. Then we moved on to Xanten to see the place where Norbert was first known before his conversion and formation of the Premonstratensian order. We got the opportunity to see the original chapel that is believed to be where he had preached as a secular canon. After those two major visits, we ventured through the country on the way back to the Netherlands. We had the privilege to visit Fr. Peter Ambtings hometown and parish. Overall it was a great day.
